Motorcraft MERCON V is an automatic transmission and power steering fluid recommended by Ford Motor Company for Ford, Lincoln and Mercury vehicles that require MERCON V or MERCON fluid, including automatic and manual transmissions and power steering systems previously serviced with MERCON. It is dyed red for leak detection, and Motorcraft says it also suits industrial uses that call for an ISO 46 or SAE 20W hydraulic oil. Do not use it where MERCON SP, MERCON LV, MERCON ULV, CVT chain-type or Type F fluid is recommended.

It provides wear protection and inhibits the formation of gum, sludge, lacquer and foam. It also provides protection against rust and corrosion. It is dyed red for ease of leak detection.
